BASF Practice Range Gets a Facelift
10/24/2010 10:15:13 PM

If you haven’t already been out to the practice range at Ben Avery, be sure to stop by the next time you are on site.  The range recently received a new look from Eagle Scout candidate Colt Van Patter who took on the FITA Practice Range as his Eagle Scout Service Project.  Colt, along with 22 volunteers over three days, worked tirelessly to give this range a much needed upgrade.

These volunteers moved rocks to widen the range, pulled weeds, raked and broomed the area, and installed a permanent shooting line.  In addition, the old carpet bales and metal stands were moved to the Broad head side of the range and new regulation target stands were constructed to replace the old ones.  Six used target bales purchased and donated by ASAA and Desert Sky Archers have been placed on the new target stands to create a regulation range for archers to practice.  In the coming weeks, Colt intends to place “diapers” on each of the targets and insert wind flags.

This project was made possible by donations from a number of contributors.

            Alliance Lumber               Carlson Systems

            White Cap                       Lowe’s

MVP Tello Development     Desert Sky Archers

The Smith Family             Boy Scout Troop 747

The ASAA would also like to thank Colt for his hard work in giving back to the Sport of Archery!

Duel in the Desert Trials Results and Team
10/4/2010 9:38:31 PM
The Arizona State Archery Association is proud to announce the 2010 Arizona Duel in the Desert Team:

Team members list

The trials took place at Ben Avery on October 2nd and 3rd at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility FITA range.  The tourney was hosted by Desert Sky Archers and Paseo Vista Archery club with registration and planning by Mike Cullumber and tourney day work led by Lynn Van Patter and family.  Boy Scout troop 747, the minute men, provided grilled burger, bratwurst and hot dog meal deals for lunch that was a big hit.  Officials were DOS, Mike Cullumber, COJ Mike Braunstein and judges, Boni Lowney, Tina Blake and Paula Simpson.

Both days were warm and sunny with breezy afternoons.  The year has also been bumper crop for thorny stickers that found their way on to everyone’s closed toe shoes.

The tourney was an open tournament with competitors ranging from Bowman to 70+ Masters.

Result are listed here:

The AZ vs CA Duel is November 6-7, 2010 at the same Ben Avery FITA range.  The tournament is an open tournament.  Non Duel Team members are invited to take part.
