Arizona Bowhunters and Field Archers Association
| About the ABFAA | | The Arizona Bowhunters and Field Archery Association (ABFAA) is affiliated with the National Field Archery Association (NFAA). The ABFAA was started to unite archers so that they could work together to promote and teach the sport of archery and help to protect archers hunting rights. Through the years we have done these things, but as more associations have been established our role has been downplayed. We still promote all aspects of archery and one of the ways we do this is by holding NFAA approved tournaments throughout the year.Generally in March, we host our Indoor Championship. The NFAA Indoor round is shot at 20 yards on a blue and white face. The round consists of 12 ends of 5 arrows. The center five ring is white and the outside rings are blue. It may be shot on a single face or a five spot face. The single face has a 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 scoring ring, whereas the five spot only has a 5 and 4 ring. In spring we hold the State Field Championship. This tournament consists of three different rounds shot on two days. We shoot a 28 target Field round. Rounds are laid out along a trail in 14 target halves. Each half has the same distances which vary from 10 yards to 80 yards at 5 yard increments, but not necessarily in any order. The size of the target faces change at 15 yards, 35 yards, and 55 yards. The faces are predominantly white face with a black spot. It is score 5-4-3. Four arrows are shot at each targets. There are targets where you shoot all four arrows from one spot, others where you shoot one arrow from four different distances and others where you shoot from four locations at the same distance. The second round is a Hunter round. It is shot on a predominately black face with a white spot. The scoring is the same and the layout is similar to the Field round, except that the distances are not at five yard intervals, but are at uneven yardages, between 11 and 70 yards. There are more targets where you shoot one arrow from four different distances. Again a total of 28 targets are shot. The third round is an animal round. The distances are marked, the targets are paper with large “kill” zones and aiming dots worth an additional. If you score with your first arrow, that is all you shoot at that target. If you have to shoot additional arrows the score goes down a minimum of 4 points. You may shoot up to three arrows. Our third official tournament round is an International Round. We usually shoot this in November. It is shot in an open field on the hunter face. The distances are 20 to 65 yards on 5 yard increments. You shoot 3 arrows and generally the same ten targets twice. Please consider joining us at our shoots. Membership is $35 to join the NFAA and ABFAA. If you are an NAA member you can join the ABFAA for $10. |
